At the heart of our work is a comprehensive 12-month programme cycle.


The Vision

The Student Exchange Hospitality Training Programme  is a visionary collaboration designed to bridge the critical gap between culinary education and professional practice across Africa. The program establishes a structured student exchange initiative that empowers young culinary arts and hospitality students through hands-on learning in diverse African hospitality environments.


Geographic Reach: Eight African countries spanning diverse culinary traditions and hospitality standards


Primary Institutions:

  • Central University of Technology (Free State)
  • Tshwane University of Technology (Pretoria)
  • Partner hotels across eight nations


Core Activities

Participants undertake cross-border exchanges, monthly skill-based workshops (emphasising African fusion and sustainability), and mentorship from professional chefs. Students maintain a culinary journal to track their professional development.


  • Student Selection and Preparation – Rigorous selection of high-performing culinary students with cultural and professional orientation
  • Exchange Placements – Immersive rotations in partner hotels across multiple African countries, exposing students to diverse kitchen departments and front-of-house operations
  • Regional Training Workshops – Quarterly masterclasses and skill-based workshops featuring expert chefs, with focus areas including African fusion cuisine and sustainable cooking practices
  • On-Site Mentorship – Direct guidance from executive chefs and experienced mentor professionals in partner institutions
  • Industry Recognition – Certificates and evaluations jointly issued by all partner institutions, validating competencies and professional credentials

Application and Selection

Students are nominated by participating institutions (5–10 per year) based on academic performance, practical skills, and passion. A joint selection panel from partner countries and hotels reviews candidates.
